Katherine Anne Porter--Old Mortality--
I just read Katherine Porter's Old Mortality--from her 3 novella collection--Pale Horse, Pale Rider
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katherine_Anne_Porter
I was almost about to put it aside for my yard sale book table in July.
It's great--the Southern family is so real, Uncle Gabriel obsessed with Aunt Amy,
the botched duel, Miranda, Miranda's father.
The aunt "with the weak chin" fighting for the women's vote--it's all so real.
One feels like Miranda sitting in the train carriage working out her life--she's clearly KAP's alter ego.
The sister Maria is just a foil.
The restrictions of genteel families and the judgemental, gossipy attitudes.
Too bad KAP was nominated for the Nobel Prize 5 times but never won it.
I've put my copy back on my Keep pile.
