38 Nobel Laureates' Open letter to Erdogan I don't think it will make any difference. This is the guy invited by Trmp to WH, who oversaw his thugs beat up Turkish American demonstrators in front of Turkish Embassy in DC. I once did a salon presentation on Orhan Pamuk. 3 people from the Turkish embassy came to heckle me, and deny the Armenian genocide. They left in a huff when my audience of about 20 people chewed them out. I didn't need to call 911. kmk 2-28-2018

Mark my words, they are making these conciliatory moves because Mueller Investigation is getting closer and closer--

1. Hope Hicks will be interviewed. 2. Melania cuts ties with friend who got 26 m from their Inauguration Fund, no one knows for what. 3. trmp donates "foreign profits' from his DC hotel, to US Treasury--but he was not supposed to have them in the first place. On other hand, Buvanks still going to S Korea to represent USA--her father???? Still with no security clearance. She should have tried figure skating instead. trmp last week had "listening session" with Parkland School shooting survivors, but-- needed a checklist with points facing out !!! held in his hand, to remind himself to show empathy. Whose advice was that? If he really wanted to be reminded, he would have held the note card facing himself. This WH is beyond belief. One student said, she's never met anybody she was so unimpressed by. Go girl, go! Good luck and long long life to Parkland Survivors, we love you, we are behind you. Important post--Seven days in May--a movie JFK wanted made but did not live to see. WETA 2014

Finally, DJT allows release of redacted Minority/Democrat/Adam Schiff Memo in response to Nunes "nothing burger." Nunes memo made false claims against DOJ, FBI, FISA warrant, Steele and Steele dossier, and Peter Strok (sp?) and Lisa Page (not related to Carter Page). It’s not possible to copy and paste the complete text of above, but— 1. Carter Page was approached by Russian spies for recruitment, made a trip to Moscow where he gave a keynote speech at a Russian institution of higher learning, and 2. FBI found Carter Page suspicious even before he joined Trump campaign as an advisor. 3. Bruce Ohr is unfairly thrown into the narrative by Nunes. 4. Peter Strok (sp?) and Lisa Page emails “criticizing Trump” also criticized a wide range of people of all political stripes and so is just another red herring pulled out of a hat by T. and has no relevance to Carter Page’s FISA warrant. KMK: Just an attempt by T. to undermine the Mueller investigation and create a distraction and “side issue” of trivia. Besides, the emails were private and between 2 individuals. However, months ago, Mueller/FBI did take action, demoting? Peter Strok (sp?) and Lisa Page left the Mueller team? Or resigned from FBI? Of her own accord. KMK: Nunes and Trmp sycophants including Fox News, made a big hoopla about Nunes “nothing burger” memo a week ahead, but when it was released, it was something of a non-event and anti-climax. In case of Nunes memo, T. declassified it and released it at once. In case of Schiff/Democrat memo, he at first blocked it, and it is only being released now after items, parts of sentences, which might endanger security of FBI operations are blocked out (redacted). In any case, it is quite clear that Nunes memo was a “make up job” and T. did wrong by blocking the Minority counter-memo. As President he should be above party politics, but he is not. 2-25-2018

Trailer of 1964 movie, Seven Days in May, about a military coup in the USA I'm reading the book, and it is beautifully written. President Kennedy supported the making of the 1964 movie. Muellers' 32 count indictment against Manafort--a must watch-- Rachel Maddow explains how Paul Manafort’s 15 years in the Soviet Bloc and his income dwindled when Ukraine dictator Yanukovich was ousted and fled to Moscow. According to Maddow and NBC, Manafort was desperate for money when he pitched himself to the Trump campaign as willing to work full time for free. The 4? page pitch has come to light. Even though the 1st book keeper at the Chicago bank rejected his offer of his properties as collateral thinking the supporting documents were doctored, they were, he was able to get 16 m loan from the Chicago Bank which was supposed to be for veterans. Manafort is not a veteran and has nothing to do with Chicago. The loan represented 25%? 50 %, (check), of this bank’s total cash, and some officials at the bank questioned the loan. The bank head, Calk, believed himself as about to get a job as War Secretary at the Pentagon, and his approaches caused alarm there. Mueller himself got on the scent of this thing because Manafort’s properties were put up for his 10m $ bail deal, but it did not go through. Footage of what Parkland Student Massacre survivors and Sandy Hook mother said to trmp--and what he has actually done. Make sure you watch this. The cur has actually made it easier to buy guns. Ideally, you should watch The Rachel Maddow Show every night. d. j. t. just saw the survivors because he had to. In reality his right wing cheerleaders are saying the students, who have just buried their schoolmates and siblings are "crisis actors." How would he feel if buvanka, jared, and the youngest were shot. M.'s secret service protected trips and stays in NY before she joined him in WH alone cost taxpayer over 700,000. He makes an untold number of trips to his properties like Mar a Lago and Bedmington NJ all the time. Secret Service has already said it has run out of money (for 2017) If Salmon Rushdie could pay for his own security in UK during the fatwa--so can he. Meanwhile M has her nose out of joint bc yet another woman former Playmate says she had an affair with trmp. So she takes a motorcade to Andrews Air Force base to go to FL instead of riding the helicopter with her sugar daddy. And her parents have just got green cards. If that isn't chain immigration, what is? And his former bodyguard is being paid $15,000 A MONTH, to "plan an event 3 years from now, by which time he will amass half a million." Commentators said, "What do these people know that they are paid this kind of hush money." But don't worry, trmp admin has fired so many people, there are more than enough angry former employees, not to mention women, who will go on the record to tell their stories about "inside stuff" And does he think Putey will not keep the "pee tape." I wld too if I were P. And then use it when it's time to dump trmp and the time will come. This so-called presidency needs to fold. Mueller has filed new charges against Manafort and Gates. Oh yes, and trmpies and extreme R are livid bc Twitter has deleted many fake accounts, suspected of being bot run. When I was on Facebook I saw a zillion fake accounts, and that's only those with Burmese names. I have deleted my Facebook account entirely. -- Doubtless, we'll have another news dump on Friday. Sam Nunberg to Ari Melber- on MSNBC-"Yes, they were all lying." published 2-20-2018 accessed 2-21-2018 Not exact transcript. Ari Melber—Mueller is making progress, now 4 charged. 4 Sam Nunberg was . . . mentioned in Michael Wolf’s book (19 times? Inaudible) “I am worried about Michael Cohen. (Trmp lawyer “has been screwed by Trump.”) “Trump screws everyone— Ari Melber plays old clips in which Kellyanne Conway, Mike Pence and Trump lie about Russia. -- Ari on The Beat: Have the investigators called you? Are you co-operating? Nunberg quibbled, then said, “Look, Donald Trump caused this investigation.” Ari Melber asks if it was due to Comey firing— Nunberg said something like he agrees with Comey firing. “But one day later he gives an interview to Lester Holt that he fired Comey because of the Russia thing. “Then the next day, and I don’t know why his advisors allowed it, he had the Russians come (he allowed Lavrov and Kisslyak ) into the oval office. Ari: Was that the right move? Nunberg: No! Not at all. Look, I don’t know if the leaks are correct, but he should not have done this. – Ari: You know these people (in the WH), you worked with them. Let me read you a NYTs report: Flashed on screen, quote— NYTS Headline-- Tools of Trump’s Fixer: Payouts, Intimidation and the Tabloids by Jim Rutenberg, Maggie Haberman et al. ‘Mr Cohen heading off trouble involving Mr T’s history with women, accruing loyalty points, the ultimate currency with Mr T.’ Ari: Do you worry? Cross talk-- Nunberg: “I worry about Michael(Cohen). Ari: Look, I ask the Q, you give the answer. Ari: Do you worry that Michael Cohen in his loyalty, may lie for Trump in such a way that it hurts him? Nunberg repeats: I worry about Michael. I’m not saying Michael is going to lie, but I worry about Michael. I can tell you this, whenever I get a call from someone saying ‘I’ve been screwed by Donald Trump, and by the way, he’s screwed a lot of people. Ari Melber: hmm hmm Nunberg: He screws everyone. . . And, what I worry about is what Michael will say when he’s called in by someone like Andrew Weismann Ari: He’s a Mueller investigator. And Mueller has been charging people for lying. Nunberg: I do think Weisman has a problem. Ari: I appreciate your candor but let me—but let me ask you something else. The WH today is saying he’s tough on Russia. Nunberg: No, he’s not. I’m a supporter of Israel—there is no bigger supporter of Iran than Vladimir Putin. Ari plays old clips from during the 2016 campaign days— Trump saying—gesturing as usual like he’s talking to fools: ‘I believe that an easing of tensions with Russia from a position of strength only, is possible. (But his body language in Europe when meeting Putin face to face the first time? belies this. He was sucking up to Putin, hopping places at mostly empty dinner table and chatting WITH NO ONE ELSE present within earshot--kmk). Clip—Pence: head down, ‘we hope for better days’ -- Ari: Campaign went around saying there were no meetings (with Russians)—take a look. George Stephanopolis interviewing Paul Manafort: GS: Are there any ties between Mr T, you and your campaign and Putin’s regime? Manafort, smiling: No, (inaudible) it’s absurd. Next clip: Interviewer—did anyone (in the campaign have any ties with Russia) Heavily made up Kellyanne Conway, shaking head and smiling, ‘Absolutely not.’ Next clip, Pence on Fox News Channel: (shaky head, straight face): I can tell you all the contacts of the Trump Campaign were with the American people. Ari: Were they lying? Or was it a mistake? Nunberg: I have never met Paul Manafort . . . but I respect him. But that doesn’t mean I respect Kellyanne or the VP. “Yes, they were all lying.”

The Color Purple, movie directed by Steven Spielberg, based on novel by Alice Walker. I expected to see a movie about the Gullah people of the Southern USA when I stepped out, but the Village Center said The Color Purple had been substituted instead. Since it is a very famous novel I decided to watch. But I found the movie confusing. First, I did not understand that the man who took the baby was Celie's father, and that he had raped and impregnated his daughter. 2 children are compacted into one birth scene-- The incest is not apparent in the movie at all, nor was I sure that Nettie and Celie were sisters. The "subsititution" when the actress playing Celie as a teenager was replaced suddenly in voiceover off screen by an older and wiser/narrator played by Whoopi Goldberg (very well) was jaring, partly because Whoopi is so good. Also, the two women did not look alike at all and it took a few seconds to figure out she was grown up Celie. One of my writing mentors used to say, "You should never have to puzzle things out. It takes you out of the story." I wasn't aware that the white man who came to see Mister (played by Danny Glover) was Mister's father--how could that be? White man. I thought it was his landlord, or the landowner. Was he a tenant farmer? Why did Celie spat into his water glass. It's never clear how Mister manages to make a living, farming? Glover plays a convincing son of a bitch, but the movie seems unclear whether it wishes to be a. about the black experience b. a sista story c. a homosexual story d. a bad black man women's rights story. And the famous people with the exception of brilliant Whoopi, seem to be prancing about playing caricatures of themselves. At times it looks like a spoof, not a serious movie. With the exception of Goldberg, the acting was not that great. I liked the screenplay and book of 12 Years a Slave much better, and I liked Free State of Jones and Lincoln much better than Purple. I also liked the Malcolm X movie years ago, in fact I loved it. If it's a Dickens type story, it should be bleaker and sadder, not with flowers and a house with red geraniums, and all the cute cute sister stuff. My experience is blood sisters usually do not love each other. If they do, the reason should have been better shown,e.g. was Celie afraid Nettie would be raped by their father too--come to think of it, why did Nettie suddenly show up at Celie's, and why did Mister throw her out--because she taught Celie how to read? I thought he had the hots for Nettie from the start. How come Nettie knew how to read and Celie did not> Mister as played by Glover is inexplicable and shallow, maybe purposely so. I have to admit I came out after the Shug nightclub scene and Celie and Shug getting romantic, (where was Mister and the dozen children??) Suddenly, the videotape stopped, and the technician was attempting to fix it when I decided to step out. I hope the novel is better. K M Kaung 2-15-2018 PS, when I first arrived in the USA my Egyptian friend stepped out of an opera by Francis Ford Coppula, Don Juan/Giovanni, with Keri Te Kanawa based on the Mozart opera, but then lots of people don't understand opera. . For them, art was predominantly a way to express their deepest emotions. On first inspection, Henry Callahan's acrylics on canvas—now showing at the Foundry Gallery along with works by Kyi May Kaung—call to mind the works of Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko. But where those ab-ex giants would channel their emotions, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Callahan unabashedly channels nature when making his abstractions: Before the Storm (pictured) calls to mind a sea-and-sky horizon, complete with piscine forms roiling in the ocean. Similarly, Titanium Crescent features cresting waves and vertical strips that approximate undersea vegetation; the dark-hued upper half of Concrete Jungle suggests a deep forest. Kaung's palette is much lighter, though not always cheerier. Her works are a mix of watercolors and monotypes, influenced almost equally by Asian calligraphy and Western action painting: Several of her calligraphic pieces suggest a cacophony of street signs in an urban business district, whereas a number of her inkblot-filled works spin propulsively beyond the matte in the spirit of Jackson Pollock or Franz Kline. But her simplest works are her most pleasing; Courage and Haiku (for DG), feature balletic brushstrokes that cohere in near-perfect harmony. Both artists' works are on view from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday; and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, to Sunday, April 28, at Foundry Gallery, 9 Hillyer Court NW. Free. (202) 387-0203. trmp wants military style big parade a la Kim Jung Un, and they eat dog in Korea-- Which is worse do you think? Tillerson warns Russia may interfere again in US Midterm elections. trnp aim seems to be to bankrupt USA further. We all know dictators love parades and circuses. So "funny" to see him with his front hair lifting up and down in breeze and stiff wife in latest summer fashion. Oh, he wants parade so his wife can outdo Mrs Macron. Did you notice her wrinkles around eyes and at sides of her (plastic surgeon) cut cheeks. 2-7-2018

Rachel Maddow: Nunes memo sad trombone.

Devin Nunes' nothing burger--exactly my conclusion.

Ethics problem, Malaysian PM stayed at Trump DC hotel, Trmp keeps going to his properties, providing free advertising

The market speaks--Dow plunges--is that "make America great again??"

trmp is also trying to discredit Christopher Steele in one fell swoop or swipe. If pee tape emerges it will be over. I bet Putin will keep copies and release when he wishes to dump tump. we shall see.

It all boils down to "cozying up to Russia" implied in cartoon above, by same person who projected the "shithole" remarks onto the DC trumo hotel. DJT's reputation is really in tatters, and I don;t think he will get away with antagonizing, among others-- FBI media Bannon other firees--etc etc, not to mention his old NY mob enemies. At some point a critical mass is reached and the whole edifice collapses, as it is based on lies "I am the greatest" "I love women" "I'll make Ameroca great again" and so on and on. 2-2-2018

devile nunes' memo is a nothing burger--MSNBC analyst says intelligence services use foreign sources all the time--

"memo" full text--copied and pasted from The Atlantic--basically, trmpies don't like it bc Carter Page was netted--

The Full Text of the Nunes Memo On Friday, the House Intelligence Committee released the controversial document, which alleges surveillance abuses by the FBI. House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes briefs reporters at the U.S. Capitol in Washington. Jonathan Ernst / Reuters Lena Felton 12:33 PM ET Politics Share Tweet LinkedIn Email Print Text Size Subscribe to The Atlantic’s Politics & Policy Daily, a roundup of ideas and events in American politics. On Friday, the House Intelligence Committee, which is chaired by Republican Representative Devin Nunes, released a four-page memo alleging surveillance abuses by the FBI. Earlier this week, Republicans on the committee voted to make the document public. The classified document has drawn criticism from Democratic lawmakers, who argue it is misleading, as well as from law enforcement officials. In a rare statement, the FBI warned against the document’s release, saying it had “grave concerns” about its accuracy. Despite pushback from officials, the White House approved the release of the memo Friday. Below, read the memo in full. January 18, 2018 To: HPSCI Majority Members From: HPSCI Majority Staff Subject: Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Abuses at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Purpose This memorandum provides Members an update on significant facts relating to the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and their use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) during the 2016 presidential election cycle. Our findings, which are detailed below, 1) raise concerns with the legitimacy and legality of certain DOJ and FBI interactions with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), and 2) represent a troubling breakdown of legal processes established to protect the American people from abuses related to the FISA process. Investigation Update On October 21, 2016, DOJ and FBI sought and received a FISA probable cause order (not under Title VII) authorizing electronic surveillance on Carter Page from the FISC. Page is a U.S. citizen who served as a volunteer advisor to the Trump presidential campaign. Consistent with requirements under FISA, the application had to be first certified by the Director or Deputy Director of the FBI. It then required the approval of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General (DAG), or the Senate-confirmed Assistant Attorney General for the National Security Division. The FBI and DOJ obtained one initial FISA warrant targeting Carter Page and three FISA renewals from the FISC. As required by statute (50 U.S.C. §,1805(d)(l)), a FISA order on an American citizen must be renewed by the FISC every 90 days and each renewal requires a separate finding of probable cause. Then-Director James Comey signed three FISA applications in question on behalf of the FBI, and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe signed one. Then-DAG Sally Yates, then-Acting DAG Dana Boente, and DAG Rod Rosenstein each signed one or more FISA applications on behalf of DOJ. Due to the sensitive nature of foreign intelligence activity, FISA submissions (including renewals) before the FISC are classified. As such, the public’s confidence in the integrity of the FISA process depends on the court’s ability to hold the government to the highest standard—particularly as it relates to surveillance of American citizens. However, the FISC’s rigor in protecting the rights of Americans, which is reinforced by 90-day renewals of surveillance orders, is necessarily dependent on the government’s production to the court of all material and relevant facts. This should include information potentially favorable to the target of the FISA application that is known by the government. In the case of Carter Page, the government had at least four independent opportunities before the FISC to accurately provide an accounting of the relevant facts. However, our findings indicate that, as described below, material and relevant information was omitted. 1) The “dossier” compiled by Christopher Steele (Steele dossier) on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the Hillary Clinton campaign formed an essential part of the Carter Page FISA application. Steele was a longtime FBI source who was paid over $160,000 by the DNC and Clinton campaign, via the law firm Perkins Coie and research firm Fusion GPS, to obtain derogatory information on Donald Trump’s ties to Russia. a) Neither the initial application in October 2016, nor any of the renewals, disclose or reference the role of the DNC, Clinton campaign, or any party/campaign in funding Steele’s efforts, even though the political origins of the Steele dossier were then known to senior DOJ and FBI officials. b) The initial FISA application notes Steele was working for a named U.S. person, but does not name Fusion GPS and principal Glenn Simpson, who was paid by a U.S. law firm (Perkins Coie) representing the DNC (even though it was known by DOJ at the time that political actors were involved with the Steele dossier). The application does not mention Steele was ultimately working on behalf of—and paid by—the DNC and Clinton campaign, or that the FBI had separately authorized payment to Steele for the same information. 2) The Carter Page FISA application also cited extensively a September 23, 2016, Yahoo News article by Michael Isikoff, which focuses on Page’s July 2016 trip to Moscow. This article does not corroborate the Steele dossier because it is derived from information leaked by Steele himself to Yahoo News. The Page FISA application incorrectly assesses that Steele did not directly provide information to Yahoo News. Steele has admitted in British court filings that he met with Yahoo News—and several other outlets—in September 2016 at the direction of Fusion GPS. Perkins Coie was aware of Steele’s initial media contacts because they hosted at least one meeting in Washington D.C. in 2016 with Steele and Fusion GPS where this matter was discussed. a) Steele was suspended and then terminated as an FBI source for what the FBI defines as the most serious of violations—an unauthorized disclosure to the media of his relationship with the FBI in an October 30, 2016, Mother Jones article by David Corn. Steele should have been terminated for his previous undisclosed contacts with Yahoo and other outlets in September—before the Page application was submitted to the FISC in October—but Steele improperly concealed from and lied to the FBI about those contacts. b) Steele’s numerous encounters with the media violated the cardinal rule of source handling—maintaining confidentiality—and demonstrated that Steele had become a less than reliable source for the FBI. 3) Before and after Steele was terminated as a source, he maintained contact with DOJ via then-Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, a senior DOJ official who worked closely with Deputy Attorneys General Yates and later Rosenstein. Shortly after the election, the FBI began interviewing Ohr, documenting his communications with Steele. For example, in September 2016, Steele admitted to Ohr his feelings against then-candidate Trump when Steele said he “was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being president.” This clear evidence of Steele’s bias was recorded by Ohr at the time and subsequently in official FBI files—but not reflected in any of the Page FISA applications. a) During this same time period, Ohr’s wife was employed by Fusion GPS to assist in the cultivation of opposition research on Trump. Ohr later provided the FBI with all of his wife’s opposition research, paid for by the DNC and Clinton campaign via Fusion GPS. The Ohrs’ relationship with Steele and Fusion GPS was inexplicably concealed from the FISC. 4) According to the head of the FBI’s counterintelligence division, Assistant Director Bill Priestap, corroboration of the Steele dossier was in its “infancy” at the time of the initial Page FISA application. After Steele was terminated, a source validation report conducted by an independent unit within FBI assessed Steele’s reporting as only minimally corroborated. Yet, in early January 2017, Director Comey briefed President-elect Trump on a summary of the Steele dossier, even though it was—according to his June 2017 testimony—“salacious and unverified.” While the FISA application relied on Steele’s past record of credible reporting on other unrelated matters, it ignored or concealed his anti-Trump financial and ideological motivations. Furthermore, Deputy Director McCabe testified before the Committee in December 2017 that no surveillance warrant would have been sought from the FISC without the Steele dossier information. 5) The Page FISA application also mentions information regarding fellow Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos, but there is no evidence of any cooperation or conspiracy between Page and Papadopoulos. The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016 by FBI agent Pete Strzok. Strzok was reassigned by the Special Counsel’s Office to FBI Human Resources for improper text messages with his mistress, FBI Attorney Lisa Page (no known relation to Carter Page), where they both demonstrated a clear bias against Trump and in favor of Clinton, whom Strzok had also investigated. The Strzok/Lisa Page texts also reflect extensive discussions about the investigation, orchestrating leaks to the media, and include a meeting with Deputy Director McCabe to discuss an “insurance” policy against President Trump’s election.
