Reminds me of time I took my child to FAO Schwartz in NY, where an actress dressed as a doll and standing like a doll winked at us.

This is a small bright spot in dark Burma picture. Thanks for writing this.

I'd love to be linked to this circus.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery -- new translation of The Little Prince.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_de_Saint-Exup%C3%A9ry

For me at least, passes the test of "made me cry three times."

Much more moving than the version I have read previously, and more lyrical.

See also Larry King Live, yesterday, on CNN

Beautiful interview in which His Holiness spoke of "not calling for Tibetan independence" but for a middle way.

His holiness also spoke about Haiti and said self-discipline was for oneself when King asked about Tiger Woods "practicing infidelity."

He called Larry King "Harry."

Alaungsithu's prayer -- translated by Gordon H. Luce.

Thus, in an inscription in the Shwegu Temple, we find this beautiful prayer, written in Pali verse, by King Alaungsithu (1112-1167):

By this my gift, whatever boon I seek,
It is the best of boons to profit all;
By this abundant merit I desire
Here or hereafter no angelic pomp
Of Brahmas, Suras, Maras; nor the state
And splendors of a monarch; nay, not even
To be the pupil of a conqueror.
But I would build a causeway sheer athwart
The river of Samsara, and all folk
Would speed across thereby until they reach
The Blessed City. I myself would cross,
And drag the drowning over. Aye, myself
Tamed, I would tame the willful; comforted,
Comfort the timid; wakened, wake the asleep;
Cool, cool the burning; freed, set free the bound.

From a 1950s Atlantic Monthly article by "Thawka" also known as Zawgyi or U Thein Han, renowned poet.
