Burma - so-called reforms - update by Anonymous
I like what you wrote and I totally agree that she should remove herself from politics before tarnishing herself. At present, it seems like Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been cleverly hoodwinked by foxes wearing sheepskins. . . . It is so clear that the reforms are good for the privileged people. I can't even think about how the poor people are going to manage. Everyone keeps saying that the democratic reforms are still young and we ought to be patient. Strangely, the reforms are moving pretty fast for the business people . . . who are the cronies of the cronies of the cronies of the cronies of the ex-Generals. In short, corruption is now legally practiced.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi makes a veiled comment with ref. to anti-Muslim riots in Meikhtila, N. Burma -
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi makes a veiled comment about racial strife in Meikhtila to reporters in Naypyitaw --
translation: "I am telling you now, just because a lot of people do it, and the majority does it, does not make it right.
"For instance if everyone was hitting one reporter, it is still not right."

K.M. Kaung's comment left on Irrawaddy site ref. Aung Zaw on Dictators, Part II
Ko Aung Zaw is not "wrong" he just needs to cite where he got the facts from - That is standard practice now, even among fiction writers - I'm not saying he needs a Ph.D. or even an MA - Don't you know how to read? - Don't put words in my mouth, I resent it - you who can't even put out your real name.
Ko Aung Zaw can one day get a honorary Ph.D. like Daw Suu for his journalism as she did for her political work - That's not the point here - the point is who said what, especially opinions, which are not facts.
According to Christine who first started the book published by Ben Rogers - Than Shwe won his wife, a widow, in a high army officer lotto - CW was doing the research for her MA thesis at a US Univ. I am not giving her full name because I don't wish to, don't think it is wise. I don't know if it is in Ben's book - go buy the book and read it.

K.M.Kaung - my comment on Aung San Suu Kyi confronted by hundreds of angry protestors -
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi confronted by hundreds of protestors about copper mine -
http://www.irrawaddy.org/archives/29352
People should stop blaming her - instead of gallivanting all over Gen. Thein Sein should go down and confront/talk to the demonstrators - his appointing Daw Suu to head the inquiry commission was just step number 2 or 3 in their plan to put Daw Suu in a spot.
This is very worrisome - images of the death of Benazir Bhutto come before my eyes daily.
They could just say some angry person in the crowd hit her -- it's happened before, doesn't anyone remember??

Comment left on Ko Aung Zaw's Facebook page ref - Irrawaddy article - Daw Suu said copper mine protestors should stop protests etc
What's happening? She cannot take a stance that benefits the junta and China - this is going to blow up in everyone's face - not just with the copper mine but also tens of thousands acres of farm land taken over all over the country - Irrawaddy Magazine should add up the acreages and do a special report - or AI, HRW etc should.

3 Letpadaung Taung copper mine protestors suing "President" Thein Sein for pre-dawn attack with white phosphorus -
http://www.irrawaddy.org/archives/28498
Independent labs outside Burma have established it was white phosphorus, victims are still in burn units in a Thai hospital, "inquiry commission" was clearly just a window-dressing move to placate people and put Daw Suu Kyi in a spot simultaneously -
so long as the military government remains in power you can be sure there will be no change. The report is currently collecting dust in some office.

Dr Sean Turnell says the "news" he has been appointed Daw Suu's economic advisor is an exaggeration
though he has advised her and sent her papers.

K.M. Kaung's comment on - Dr Sean Turnell appointed Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's economic advisor -

This is very good - congratulations Sean.
His name is spelled "Sean" and pronounced "Shawn" - I am on the board of his Burma Economic Watch at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

Daw
Suu could not choose a better adviser.
I and others first met Sean in
2002 at a Burma Studies conference in Gutenberg, Sweden. Sean had by
then already been watching Burma professionally for many years. He knew
so much about Burmese money and banking, I thought he had got special
permission and gone to Burma and gotten the government's statistics.
However, he had not gone at that time.
We all should note Daw Suu is not the government, nor the finance minister, and so whatever good advice she and Sean give, for instance, print less money, reduce the military budget, it is doubtful Thein Sein's govt will comply, in fact they have already raised military spending - so --
I am sorry to say this - but don't expect any real change from this excellent move. The military government should change.

PS. I forgot to mention on Ko Nyo's page that Dr. Sean Turnell was the author of the money and banking portion of the Plan for Democracy and Development for Burma, that I coordinated for the Exile Government in 2010
