Lieutenant General Tun Tun Naung, ousted as Minister of Home Affairs in late January, has now been reportedly expelled from the military for allegedly taking protection payments from scam syndicates, according to The Irrawaddy’s sources in Naypyitaw.

Tun Tun Naung had led the junta’s crackdown on the scam industry as chair of the Central Supervisory Committee on Combating Telecom Fraud and Online Gambling, formed in early December 2025.

However, he was investigated by the Office of the Chief of Military Security Affairs (OCMSA) after Beijing informed Naypyitaw that he was profiting from scam centers in northern Shan State. RelatedPosts

“He was dismissed from the army after a probe by the Military Security Affairs unit, sparked by a tip-off from China, found that he had taken bribes. He won’t even receive a pension,” a Naypyitaw-based source told The Irrawaddy.
