Ogo Ogo and Asian womens's bios that my book group is reading now:

Comic Ogo Ogo in Bali -- Photo copyright Kyi May Kaung -- Ogo Ogo are made of foam and papier mache by the extremely artistic Balinese and paraded on bamboo rafts the day before Nyepi (New Year) to drive out all the bad demons. There are competitions and different organizations vie with each other, and spy on each other, to produce the most distinctive figures. Afterwards they are burned.

Woman selling "Ogo Ogo hair" in Bali, Indonesia -- Photo copyright Kyi May Kaung --

She wanted me to take her to America, where she said her son worked for Intercontinental Hotels. I tried to explain to her that life in America is hard and there's no room for extra people, but I don't think she or my interpreter heard me. Ogo Ogo hair is made from padanas fibre and is quite a laborious process. The hair dyed black was really spooky.
