Horrible—heart-breaking --Chef Andres’ World Central Kitchen hit by Israel—“ by accident.” https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/04/02/world/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news
Andres is based in Bethesda, MD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Andr%C3%A9s
I used to go to Jaleo "Ha--lay oh"
quite a bit with other writers.
M
y favorite was rabbit with prunes--but they took it off the menu.
Sometimes I make chicken with prunes.
I think Spanish Diner is now at that location.
I like tapas--small eats.
"Emily" the British-accented woman on GPS, pronounced Jaleo as Jar lay oh--
but then Brits still say JoonTa.
It does not matter so long as you love Jaleo
and hate joonta. Today after 10 years checking my eyes and 2 cataract operations, my glaucoma specialist asks
"How do you pronounce your first name?"
I always say C H I--as in Chi Chi's Mexican Restaurant.
As
Jack Healey, who pioneered celeb concerts while head of Amnesty International said, at one Free Burma event,
"We'd better all learn how to pronounce Aung San Suu Kyi's name correctly."
George Bush the younger said "Aung Suu San Kyi." One of my dissident friends complained about another Burmese dissident-- "
S
o many years and he's still spelling Suu as 'Su.'"
L
et's not forget her--
joonta means to kill her by neglect.
