I've read 2 of Rory Stewart's books--The Places in Between, and Prince of the Marshes--
and intend to read more.
Also I saw his name on a wall plaque at a Torquoise Mountain exhibit of Afghan artifacts in DC.
Notable was a cedar wood pavilion, some ceramics and beautiful modern carpets, hung on a wall, that looked like they were transparent, but they weren't.
