Best books on Civil War are John Jakes' North and South and Michael Shaara's Killer Angels, https://www.amazon.com/Killer-Angels-Classic-Novel-Trilogy/dp/0345348109 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killer_Angels Unfortunately, my copy is packed in some box, though I remember it well. Vividly brings to life the major and minor characters during 4 days of Battle of Gettysburg.
