We stopped at either Port Said, or Gibraltor--I am uncertain which, and took a spin around the place in a taxi--but didn't get down and walk. My mother was very scared.

Later on the ship, a magician came on board to entertain us. I was 7--and as I still do now, I sat in the front row. It's always important to me not to miss a thing.
My father said,"They are tricks. If you go behind them, you will see how their tricks are set up."
The magician wore a red fez and sat on a small carpet on the floor.
He said Ram Guli Guli all the time.
Ram Guli Guli--Ram Guli Gali--it sounded like an invocation to the god Ram? In Water of India he poured a never ending stream of water from a silver jug and it went on and on and he never ran out of water and the cup never overflowed.
Then he pulled yards and yards of string with little colored flags on them out of his mouth (that was real easy to figure out) and as a finale, he passed his hand near my knee and the hem of my yellow dress, and pulled a little live chicken out from under my skirt.
However, he did not give me the chicken.
More later--just thinking of the men/waiters--and also waitresses who are nice to me-- and all my mentors, all my life, who are fond of me, and our Tamil doctor--
So the world is a good place--for the most part.
