I'm sure I'm not the only one in the world who thinks matters in trmp world are coming to a head.

Kim and even Putin must be pleased to see him skitter around like that.
BTW, if Putin helped elect trmp, he did so with the great expectation that sanctions on Russia would be lifted.
As that did not happen and can't now, as we Burmese say, "When someone is slipping downhill, we help put wheels on him."
Putin said a few days ago that he "talks regularly on the phone with Trmp."
What a world.
Meanwhile the U.S's long time allies are mighty upset with the trade wars.

It shows how chaotic trmp admin was from day one, and how prescient of C Span just to keep the cameraman) permanently in trmp tower lobby. No private waiting area or anything.

Way back in 1983 or so, during a holiday visit, family friend Joe went to bed early, then came downstairs again to find his somewhat drunk wife and me chatting.
He said, "I came downstairs to warn (Scallion Shoot) that you are a writer and not to tell you that story, but she already has."
Joe has since passed away and Scallion has told me quite a number of stories, only one of which I have rejiggered and fictionalized, but not this particular one.

All I can say now is it involves X'rays and electricity.
Part of what became my novella 53 Red Roses, was related to me at lunch by a friend of a friend, who came specifically to tell me that story, with a different number of roses.

Of course it helps that she sticks to one basic shape and style and "brand" and does not really "follow fashion" and she has her own in-house designer and dressmaking, hat-making,"dressing" wardrobe team.
But as one friend once said to me, "If you go live in Chiangmai, you can eat like a queen."
I can "dress like a queen" because I design and make my own clothing, I "eat like a queen" because I know how to cook almost anything myself, and I live with world class art and books, because I paint myself.
Once my professor's wife Jane asked me about the artwork, which she heard of from a colleague of mine.
I just said, "I am able to have all these things because I make the art work myself."
And I constantly recycle, up cycle or donate clothing, though I wish I had kept some items which I donated before I thought of up cycling,embellishing and selling in craft fairs.
Now I up cycle barely used items that are too small for me, but which my younger svelte customers might like, and I am even thinking of buying some items in smaller sizes to embellish.
Some Youtube videos are tremendously helpful, especially a woman named Tree.
She shows how to cannibalize 2 jackets into one, for instance.
I have converted 2 pants into one top or vest, embellished old jackets (they weren't old as in heavily used, I just stopped wearing them when I stopped working outside the home). I cut down sweaters or made flower pins from old cardigans.
Now I am going further, going to start "distressed chic" line with coordinated colors from outfits I had before.
And I will decorate hats and caps. I try them out for "audience reaction" when I go on trips with my friends and neighbors, though I think strangers give more true reactions than say a "friend" who might be jealous and is just looking to pull you down. It happens a lot in writing classes and acquaintances who talk about you to others, like their mother, but never praise you to your face, fall in that category--but fortunately, they are not many.
I don't see why you can't recylcle and upcycle your goddamn clothes when you have already done so with your life.
I will write a book about it.

Frankly, I don't see why scholars, such as Robert Taylor and Mary Callahan, perceived as leaning towards the Burma junta, are so obsessed about "state-building in Burma."
Robert Taylor's first book took the incomprehensible view that the bigger the state the better.
At least Callahan is somewhat more nuanced.
I don't know why she thanked me, as I had a rather nasty run-in with her in Singapore in 2006, when her close colleague Khin Zaw Win quoted Shakespeare? "but that I loved my country more," and I got so pissed I quoted a popular song, "What's love got to do with it," back at them.
"State" is an invented concept as are "nation" and "country"--Genghis Khan may have invented the first state or nation, by uniting the grassland tribes.

After the run-in at the conference table, I hurried to lunch and the rest room, and as I hurried past their table, Mary C. who was sitting near Steinberg, called out to me, "Kyi May, Kyi May, do you think I said this because I am white?"

I once spoke to Norma Bixler, who started the "Burma is as big as Texas" cliche, at her home in Columbus OH.

and Norma, even then starting to suffer from maccular degeneration of her eyes, and a few years later to be diagnosed with dementia, said at once, "Of course they do."
She may have been right. Burmese just smile and pretend.
(During my short visit, Paul told me what Norma was going through when he fetched me from the airport. Norma had a cat named Ko Ko (elder brother) and she called out to him every evening. At dinner, she wore first her white linen shift from Mexico, and the next day her black linen shift, which I thought was just the height of elegance. I was so scared as she mentioned my visit in her Columbus Newsletter. She mentioned my mother in her book. She made a fat slab of steak, which she unwrapped and put straight into the oven, no washing, no marinading. I had never seen anyone "cook" like that before.)
Anyway, I have no idea why Mary C thanked me with all the other "greats"--but I do think that was nice of her, though it won't make any difference to what I think.
But in the past she did tell me something very useful--she told me while she was on a research trip to the ancient city of Bagan, the army came in some trucks and closed off the area, and a few hours later soldiers came out carrying life-size statues wrapped in gunny bags.
