DC Night--
Real and Visual Poetry-Words & Images Copyright KM Kaung
In the night
the male and female mannikins
half torso-ed
full bodied
sanitized
stand guard.
Too good to be true
featureless
they skewer you
with their synthetic
perfection--
They say
buy this
buy this
all will be well
just lose a few more
pounds and
dollars
they pierce
many people's
body images
make them all feel
too fat
too ugly.
That must be another war
won.
They say
mannikins
models
photo shoots
are designed
by men
who hate women.
We will see.

Burma, America, The World, Art, Literature, Political Economy through the eyes of a Permanent Exile. "We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the oppressed. Sometimes we must interfere. . . There is so much injustice and suffering crying out for our attention . . . writers and poets, prisoners in so many lands governed by the left and by the right."
