Once, when I was 10 or so, my mother and I went to see a workshop in Moulmein where a woman was sewing lace on a machine like this in satin stitch and working so fast--cutting out the holes at the same time.

There are incredibly skilled people in Burma and other countries, unfortunately, the regimes are oppressive and now it's all a wasteland.
