Merchant-Ivory film--In Secret--based on Emile Zola's Therese Raquin (novel).
The movie is good, but the original novel is better.

Slightly different ending.
Zola brilliantly shows the psychological unraveling of the murderous couple.
It's quite chilling, like Shakeseare's Iago in Othllo or Lady Macbeth in Macbeth.
Somehow evil people do themselves in.
It's said Ne Win died a terrible death.
Hitler and other dictators certainly did.
