Burma, America, The World, Art, Literature, Political Economy through the eyes of a Permanent Exile. "We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the oppressed. Sometimes we must interfere. . . There is so much injustice and suffering crying out for our attention . . . writers and poets, prisoners in so many lands governed by the left and by the right." A favorite book from my childhood in Burma - Minn of the Mississipi, by Holling Clancy Holling -

A Newberry Prize winner - but I did not know it then.
My father U Kaung must have bought it for me.
I do not remember when I learned to read.
It might have been at age 7 or 8.
