Edwin John Tut I learned vaguely that, Burma's gold billions were marked,which is thr usual practice to maintain world value and against the currency notes and coins printed .But our Dear Uncle,removed these marks on the gold bars.
They became devalued.
There is no more Board.He just give out which Ministry needs by himself.

Kyi May Kaung Never heard that story. My father's Burma Currency Board correspondence was given to U Soe Saing. U Soe Saing described going into the vault (where? at IMF?) to see Burma's gold. They all went in looking up, but found the gold was almost flush with the floor. It has nothing to do with signing--paper money has value if the quantity printed (money supply) is limited. My former prof Dr Aye Hlaing was director of the Union Bank and said on the even of his appt that the money supply gave him nightmares--and of course Ba Nyein created rather sent Burma back to socialist economy and so there were too few goods and services being chased by too much paper money. I am closing this thread now.
